The most common route to Uluru by campervan starts from Alice Springs, heading south along the Stuart Highway before turning west onto the Lasseter Highway. The drive is approximately 450 km and takes about 5 hours on well-maintained sealed roads suitable for all vehicle types.
Key stops along the way include the Erldunda Roadhouse (200 km from Alice Springs, good fuel and food stop) and the Mount Ebenezer Roadhouse (featuring Aboriginal art). Fill up with fuel in Alice Springs — while there are roadhouses along the route, fuel prices increase significantly the closer you get to Uluru.

The Ayers Rock Resort campground (Yulara) is the only camping option near Uluru and offers both powered and unpowered sites suitable for campervans and motorhomes. Facilities include hot showers, laundry, BBQ areas, a camp kitchen, swimming pool, and a small supermarket. Powered sites cost approximately $45-$55/night, and unpowered sites are $38-$45/night.
Book in advance during peak season (May-September) as the campground fills up quickly. The resort village also has restaurants, fuel, and a general store for supplies.
Most campervan travellers combine Uluru with other Red Centre attractions: Kings Canyon (Watarrka National Park) is 300 km north via the sealed Luritja Road and offers the spectacular rim walk. The West MacDonnell Ranges near Alice Springs feature incredible gorges and swimming holes. For a complete Red Centre experience, allow 7-10 days to cover Uluru, Kata Tjuta, Kings Canyon, and the MacDonnell Ranges.
