A campervan is the ideal way to explore the Territory at your own pace. Distances are vast — it's over 1,500 km from Darwin to Alice Springs — but the journey is the destination, with incredible camping spots, roadside attractions, and wildlife encounters along the way.

The Stuart Highway is one of Australia's great road trips — 1,500 km of outback driving connecting the tropical Top End with the Red Centre. Key stops include Katherine and Nitmiluk Gorge, the Mataranka thermal springs, Daly Waters historic pub, Tennant Creek, and the Devils Marbles. Allow at least 5-7 days for a comfortable journey with time to explore each stop.
The highway is fully sealed and suitable for all vehicle types, with fuel stops every 150-250 km. Many excellent free camping areas line the route, and small towns offer basic supplies and cold drinks.

While all major NT attractions are accessible by sealed road in a 2WD campervan, a 4WD unlocks incredible off-the-beaten-track experiences: the Gibb River Road, Jim Jim Falls in Kakadu, the Mereenie Loop to Kings Canyon, and remote Aboriginal communities. If budget allows and you're comfortable on dirt, a 4WD campervan dramatically expands what you can see and do.
