The drive from Cairns to Cape Tribulation is one of Australia's most spectacular and unique road trips. In just 2.5 hours, you'll travel from the bustling tropical city of Cairns through the World Heritage-listed Daintree Rainforest to Cape Tribulation — the only place on Earth where two UNESCO World Heritage sites meet: the Wet Tropics Rainforest and the Great Barrier Reef.
A campervan is the perfect way to experience this drive. Instead of rushing through on a day tour, you can stop at every waterfall, beach, and lookout along the way, camp under the rainforest canopy, and wake up to the sounds of tropical birds. The route is fully sealed and suitable for all 2WD campervans.
Along the way, you'll pass through Palm Cove, Port Douglas, Mossman Gorge, cross the Daintree River on a cable ferry, and drive through some of the oldest continuously surviving rainforest on the planet before arriving at the stunning beaches of Cape Tribulation.

Cape Tribulation has several campgrounds and caravan parks set within the rainforest, many within walking distance of the beach. Popular options include Cape Trib Beach House campground, PK's Jungle Village, and Daintree Riverview campground. Most offer powered and unpowered sites suitable for campervans, with basic amenities including showers and toilets.
Be aware that Cape Tribulation is remote — there are no supermarkets or petrol stations beyond the Daintree River crossing. Stock up on food, water, and fuel before crossing the ferry. Mobile phone reception is limited or non-existent in some areas north of the Daintree River.
